    4 Days Mount Kenya Trekking: Sirimon Route

    This route is on the drier side of the mountain which offers some of the finest and easy walking. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki town. Access is adequate and the sleeping huts are good although there is a tent option also. One hike up this route to the summit and back the same route in 4 days 3 nights. For 4 Days Mount Kenya Trekking: Sirimon Route, I will not recommend this to people who have less high-altitude hiking experience. Also, old or very young children as not have enough time for acclimatization. Here is a sample of the itinerary Starting from Nairobi and back.

     

    Price Includes

    Itinerary

    Day 1:Day 1; Nairobi – Old Moses Camp (3,300m).

    • Leave Nairobi in the morning and drive north to Nanyuki town for lunch.
    • Meet your climbing crew (porters) in Nanyuki.
    • Continue driving to Mount Kenya’s Sirimon Gate (2,650 m), check in, and start trekking.
    • Hike for 3 hours to Old Moses Camp, crossing the equator on foot with chances to spot wildlife.
    • Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp.

    Altitude gain from Nairobi; 1,500m.

    Day 2:Old Moses Camp – Shiptons Camp (4,200m).

    • After an early breakfast, start trekking to Shipton’s Camp.
    • Cross Ontulili, Likii, and Mackinders valleys, reaching the camp in 6-7 hours.
    • Enjoy your packed lunch along the way.
    • Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s Camp.

    Altitude gain; 900m.

    Day 3:Shiptons – Summit (4,985m)– Old Moses Camp

    • Wake up at 0200 hours, have a simple breakfast, and start trekking to the summit in the dark to catch the sunrise.
    • Reach the summit in 3 hours, enjoy stunning views, and see Mt. Kilimanjaro on clear days.
    • After photos, descend to Shipton’s Camp for a full breakfast.
    • Continue hiking down through Mackinders Valley to Old Moses Camp in 6 hours.

    Altitude gain; 785m,

    Altitude drop; 1,685m.

    Day 4:Old Moses Camp – Sirimon gate – Nairobi

    • After breakfast, hike down the paved road through bamboo and rainforests to the gate in 2 hours.
    • Check out of the park and board your vehicle to Nairobi or your onward destination.
