    6 Days Mt. Kilimanjaro Climbing: Marangu Route

    The route is jokingly referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route.” This is because the route is more touristic and with more comfortable walking trail. Using this program, you have an acclimatization time on 3rd day at Horombo Hut. The Marangu route is the only route on Kilimanjaro that offers hut accommodation.     Day 1:Marangu Gate [1,860m] – Mandara Hut [2,715m]

    DETAILS
    Drive from your hotel in Moshi, passing through the Marangu villages, to the park gate in approximately 50 minutes
    Meet the rest of your hiking team (porters), check in at the park gate, and begin trekking
    Trek about 8 km in approximately 4–5 hours to Mandara Hut
    Dinner and overnight at the camp
    Altitude gain from Moshi town: 1,750m

    Day 2:Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut [3,705m]

    DETAILS
    From Mandara Hut, the trail passes through a short stretch of forest and skirts the base of Maundi Crater
    On a clear day, Kibo Peak is visible in the distance
    Continue trekking across the open moorland until reaching Horombo Hut
    Hiking Distance: 15 km in approximately 6 hours
    Dinner and overnight at the camp
    Altitude Gain: 990m

    Day 3:Horombo Hut/Acclimatization Day

    DETAILS
    Horombo Hut is a village of huts on a small plateau with approximately 120 beds
    A short hike towards Mawenzi Peak, taking about 3 hours up and 1½ hours down, is recommended for acclimatization
    Enjoy spectacular views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks during the hike
    Return to Horombo Hut for rest and acclimatization
    Lunch, dinner, and overnight at the camp

    Day 4:Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut [4,730m]

    DETAILS
    After breakfast, start trekking into the alpine desert habitat
    Kibo Hut is a stone-built blockhouse with bunk beds, located in a barren area
    Once at the camp, prepare for the summit later that night
    Hiking Distance: 9.6 km in approximately 6 hours
    Altitude Gain: 1,025m

    Day 5:Kibo Hut – Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895m) –Horombo Hut [3,705m]

    DETAILS
    Wake up around 11:00 PM, have a simple breakfast, and start trekking towards the summit
    The first portion is a rocky trail to Hans Meyer Caves at 5,150m, then zigzag up to Gillman’s Point at 5,681m
    Continue on the snowy path to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in Africa
    Spend a short time at the summit, take photos, then descend to Kibo Hut for lunch and rest
    Continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight
    Hiking Ascent Distance: 5.4 km in approximately 7–8 hours
    Hiking Descent Distance: 15 km in approximately 6–8 hours
    Altitude Gain: 1,165m
    Altitude Drop: 2,190m

    Day 6:Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate [1,860m] - Moshi Hotel.

    DETAILS
    After breakfast and a small celebration, start descending 19.7 km via Mandara Hut in approximately 6 hours to the gate
    Receive certificates of achievement at the gate
    Board a vehicle to your next destination or hotel in Moshi
    Altitude Drop: 2,755m
