Three Generations, One Unforgettable Kenyan Adventure 🇰🇪🐘🦁🐆🦬🦏🦒🦛 - Our 7-day, 6-night Kenya safari with Pleasant Adventure from 3–9 August 2026 was much more than a holiday it was a very special three-generation family adventure. Travelling together with... read more my 70-year-old mum and my teenage daughter made this a truly precious experience and one that we will cherish as a family for years to come.
From the moment we arrived, Kenya seemed determined to welcome us in spectacular fashion! As we drove from the airport alongside Nairobi National Park, we were delighted to spot a giraffe in the distance and plenty of baboons along the roadside. We hadn’t even officially started our safari, and the wildlife sightings had already begun!
A very special thank you to Esther, our agent, whose positive attitude, responsiveness and flexibility were outstanding. With only seven days available, she listened carefully to what we wanted and tailor-made an itinerary that allowed three generations to experience so much of Kenya together. Travelling with both a teenager and a 70-year-old could easily have presented challenges, but the itinerary worked wonderfully for our family.
Then came the magnificent Maasai Mara and WOW!
On our very first day in the Mara, we saw four of the Big Five! We could hardly believe it! We also spotted the famous “Ugly Five” on Day 1, making an already incredible first game drive even more exciting.
We eventually completed our Big Five, and one of the most memorable moments was seeing two wide/white rhinos and one black rhino in Nakuru. Seeing these magnificent animals in the wild and being fortunate enough to see both white and black rhinos was something very special.
And then there was the Great Wildebeest Migration.
Witnessing the enormous herds across the Maasai Mara was simply breathtaking. It was one of the main reasons we chose to travel in August.
But our Maasai Mara experience was not only about the extraordinary wildlife. We also had the privilege of visiting a local Maasai community, where we were warmly welcomed and given a fascinating glimpse into their traditional way of life.
We learned about their day-to-day routines, family and community life, their homes and traditions, and how the community relocates approximately every nine years. It was wonderful to be able to ask questions and learn directly from the Maasai about a way of life and traditions that have been passed down through generations.
And, of course, we didn’t just watch, we joined in! One of the most fun and memorable moments was taking part in the traditional Maasai jumping dance with the men. Let’s just say my enthusiasm may have been greater than my jumping ability! 😂
It was a joyful and memorable cultural exchange and added another dimension to our time in the Maasai Mara. While the lions, elephants, rhinos and Great Migration were spectacular, meeting some of the people who call this remarkable landscape home helped us appreciate that Kenya’s richness lies not only in its wildlife and scenery, but also in its people, culture and traditions. 🇰🇪❤️
A huge part of what made our safari exceptional was our guide for the first five days, Joe. Joe was simply AMAZING!
His ability to locate wildlife and position us for incredible sightings was remarkable, but what impressed us equally was the breadth of his knowledge. Joe shared so much about Kenya: its wildlife, history, people, culture, communities and landscapes, as well as the different camps and lodges along our journey.
The drives between destinations therefore became part of the adventure rather than simply travelling from one location to another. Joe patiently answered our many questions, kept us engaged and gave us a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Kenya. His knowledge, professionalism, patience and warm personality added immeasurably to our experience.
When booking, ask for Joe!
From the Maasai Mara, we travelled to Lake Nakuru and then beautiful Lake Naivasha, where another unforgettable experience awaited us our boat safari with our expert guide, Titus.
Titus was fantastic. His knowledge of the lake, its wildlife and birdlife transformed the boat ride into so much more than a sightseeing trip. He pointed out the magnificent African fish eagles and hippos and took the time to explain the behaviours we were observing, including why a juvenile male was separated from a herd of more than 20.
And then came one of those wonderfully unexpected safari moments a giraffe wandered right by the shoreline! Seeing this beautiful animal so close to the water while we were out on the lake was simply magical. It was another reminder that in Kenya, you never quite know when the next extraordinary wildlife encounter will happen.
Titus, thank you for your expertise, enthusiasm and for making our Lake Naivasha boat safari such a memorable part of our adventure.
Each destination showed us another side of Kenya and brought a completely new experience.
Our accommodations, did not disappoint Orng’atuny Mara King Camp, Flamingo Hill Tented Camp, Naivasha Simba Lodge and Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi also added to our journey, giving us everything from the adventure of tented safari camps surrounded by nature and zebras on the compound in Naivasha to a comfortable ending in Nairobi.
Our final full day in Nairobi was another highlight, beginning early with Nairobi National Park, followed by visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Giraffe Centre and Kazuri Beads Factory.
A special thank you to our expert guide Tasha and our driver Ben, who took wonderful care of us. Their knowledge, professionalism and friendliness ensured that our final full day was every bit as enjoyable and engaging as the rest of our trip.
And the excellent service continued until our very last moments in Kenya. Joseph, who transferred us to the airport, was also incredibly engaging and personable. Even our final drive became another opportunity for conversation, laughter and learning a little more about Kenya. It was a lovely way to end our adventure.
When we look back at everything we experienced in just seven days, it is remarkable: the Big Five, the Ugly Five, the Great Wildebeest Migration, white rhinos and black rhinos, African fish eagles, hippos, giraffes, elephants, lions, baboons, the Maasai Mara, our Maasai community visit, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, Nairobi National Park and so much more!!!
But as spectacular as the wildlife was, the greatest gift was being able to experience it together.
There is something incredibly special about watching my 70-year-old mum, my daughter and I, three generations of our family, sharing the excitement of spotting our first lion, watching elephants, seeing rhinos in the wild, witnessing the migration, learning about Maasai life, cruising among the wildlife of Lake Naivasha, laughing together on long drives and simply taking in the beauty of Kenya.
Those are memories that no photograph can fully capture!
Esther, thank you for creating an itinerary that worked so beautifully for our three-generation adventure.
Joe, thank you for five unforgettable days, for finding those incredible wildlife sightings and for sharing your tremendous knowledge of Kenya with us.
Titus, thank you for bringing Lake Naivasha to life for us and for making our boat safari so informative, exciting and memorable.
Tasha and Ben, thank you for making our final full day another wonderful experience.
And Joseph, thank you for sending us off with the same warmth and friendliness that we experienced throughout our stay.
We came to Kenya hoping to see the Great Migration and the Big Five. We left having experienced so much more.
Kenya exceeded every expectation!
But above all, Kenya gave a grandmother, daughter and granddaughter the opportunity to share an extraordinary adventure together.
Three generations. One journey. Memories for a lifetime. ❤️
Asante sana, Esther, Joe, Titus, Tasha, Ben and Joseph, for making our Kenyan adventure one we will treasure forever.
We cannot recommend Esther and the entire team at Pleasant Adventure highly enough. From the careful planning and flexibility before our arrival to the knowledgeable guides, wonderful wildlife encounters, cultural experiences and warm hospitality throughout our journey, every detail helped make this trip truly exceptional.
For anyone considering a safari in Kenya, whether as a couple, a family or, like us, a three-generation adventure, we would highly recommend Esther and the team at Pleasant Adventure. They didn’t simply organise a safari; they helped create memories our family will carry with us for a lifetime!!!.
And the phrase we heard and embraced along the way seems like the perfect way to end
HAKUNA MATATA! 🇰🇪🦁🦒🐘🦏❤️
No worries just unforgettable memories.
Kenya, you were amazing. Until next time! 🇰🇪❤️
